How'd You Do?

Written by SuperUser Account on 3/8/2018

We’re reaching the end of this email series and I have a question for you. How’d you do? Did you take action on any of the things we talked about? I know some of you did because you replied to my emails and told me.

Here are a couple of the replies:

Brian, I know sending that email was a mistake but it made me realize how confusing my website actually is. Thanks for sending it! Oh, and please do send me the action items you mentioned.

-and-

I just looked at all of my marketing and nowhere do I ask anyone to take any kind of action. I’m going to fix that this week!

In the email series we talked about:

  1. Clarifying Your Message
  2. Calls to Action
  3. Local SEO
  4. Lead Generating .PDFs
  5. Email Nurturing Campaigns
  6. Content Marketing

Those are the things I covered in the email series because they are all things that you can do yourself that will positively impact your business if you do them.

The problem is, most of you just don’t have the time to do this stuff. The typical small business owner has so much on their plate already that taking the time to do some basic marketing actions just isn’t a reality.

Do you know what else is reality? If these things don’t get done, you’ll never escape the trap of owning a job.

Your marketing has to be a priority, PERIOD. I learned this the hard way.

The flood of August 2016 deeply impacted my elderly parents and therefore took my head out of the business for a little while. During that time we were just focused on doing the work for our clients and I completely took my mind off of marketing 5 Stones. We were doing NOTHING to bring in new business.

We were busy with some big projects at the time so I didn’t see what was happening right in front of me.

It felt like we were busy, and we were. The problem was all of those projects were nearing an end and with me being focused on helping my parents, I was too short sighted to see that we were about to have a severe drop-off in work and revenue.

It was like I woke up one day and realized…… I have a serious problem.

Up until that point we had always marketed the business through the classes we teach, email, social, blogging, and through referrals from our amazing clients and followers. It always kept us with a steady flow of new business. When we stopped doing those things, that flow of new business stopped as well. The busyness of the big projects just kept us from noticing.

When we realized what was happening we made it a priority to start marketing ourselves again. We scheduled classes, started livestreaming on Facebook, began blogging again, ramped up our email marketing, and started doing paid advertising.

The flow of new business came back and it was better than ever. It was almost too late though.

My point is this. If you’re not marketing, you’re dying. When you are busy and feel like you couldn’t handle any more work, that’s the time to be marketing. When business is slow and finances are tight, you better prioritize marketing.

If you just can’t seem to get to it, or you just don’t have the skills to market your business, that’s why we exist.

Most small business owners WANT to do great marketing, but they rarely have the time and knowledge to do it well. At 5 Stones, we get to know your business, create a customized marketing plan, and we do your marketing for you.

Business doesn’t have to be stressful. As a matter of fact, I believe that it’s just plain wrong for business owners to be stressed out the way that most are.

You should be able to go home in the evenings, turn off work and enjoy your time with your family. They need you! Look, I work in the evenings too, but it shouldn’t be all the time.

You should be able to take a nice vacation a couple of times a year. You need the vacation. Your family needs the vacation. Your family needs YOU to take the vacation. And your business needs you to take the vacation.

To do these things you have to make your business more than just a job. Do you own your business? Or does your business own you? Do you serve your business? Or does your business serve you?

I want to help you take your business to the next level.

-or-

Keep doing the same things and expecting different results.

Ultimately the choice is yours.
